Giving a voice to residents of the West Village since 2011.

The West Village Residents Association was created in 2011 to give residents a voice in issues that affect our historic neighborhood and its future as a sustainable community.

In the spirit of our late neighbor Jane Jacobs, we discourage development that is not consistent with the needs of the residents and the small businesses that serve our community.

Our goals include the improvement of the residential quality of life in our neighborhood by reducing the noise created by restaurants, bars, and clubs – and by opposing the excessive issuance of wine and beer and liquor licenses.  We support reasonable hours of operation for restaurants, bars, and clubs that are consistent with the neighborhood’s residential and historical character.

Other interests we pursue are community policing, small business support, affordable and supportive housing, homeless services, food security, accessibility, and the preservation and maintenance of public space.

WVRA coordinates and cooperates with city and state agencies and planning committees including Manhattan Community Board 2, the NYPD, the FDNY, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Department of Buildings, and the Division of Consumer Affairs and Worker Protection, and New York State’s Liquor Authority to achieve the Association’s goals.
